Beach Trip

Last Thursday we packed up the swing, the stroller, the bouncy seat, the swimsuits, the sunscreen, the pack n play, the diapers, the bottles, the kitchen sink, the blankets, the wipes and headed to Pensacola Beach for the annual family beach trip. What a new and different experience it was this year.

Here are a few highlights....

Amelia made her ONE trip to the beach.....Priss was now having anything to do with the wind.

Mommy and Amelia on their was down....she was sporting the shades and her swimsuit!

Daddy got her dress and things were looking up until the wind blew the hat off....it was all down hill from there. We will have to work on her love of the beach.

We opted for a safer, less windy route. The pool. Amelia is hanging out with Woo and chilling by the pool

She and Woo enjoyed their pool time.

Amelia and her Daddy enjoyed hanging out and resting in the condo. Daddy was extremely nice and let Mommy spend some time on the beach. I had begun to look quite ghostly. They had lots of father/daughter time.

They worked on her latest trick....holding the bottle on her own. Here she is showing off and holding it with ONE HAND!!!!

I think they were watching UFC.....yes, what great parents we are. They had just finished the latest episode of Southpark!!!

For those of you who have spend much time around us, Amelia got to cook breakfast with her Daddy each morning. He told her that she would know how to cook, unlike her Mother. They were making French Toast this morning. He would explain each step. She cooed and smiled as he talked to her.
Maybe, she will pick something up!!!

All those activities can wear a girl out. She passed smooth out this morning as we were packing.

Of course we couldn't forget the family picture. We take it each year in the same spot. What a crew!!!

Someone was worn slap out when we got home. She stretched and stretched in her bed for 20 minutes. By the way....check out her spiffy shirt she got!!!

We had a wonderful time and learned all kinds of new things about traveling with an infant. Can't wait to do it again next year and see what kind of adventure that brings!!!

What a Weekend

What a weekend....I learned just how much my nerves can take. After my post Saturday Amelia continued to have stomach trouble and run a low grade fever. She had had 12 - 15 dirty diapers by 3:00 that after and they were not showing any signs of slowing down.......so the new paranoid mother I am called the doctor again! And off to the ER we went....again! We did however make it in before the crazy's came out this time.

With this trip Amelia's fever was up and they wanted to run a few test. They collected urine, blood and stool (which at this point was not a problem!!!). They had to put in an IV line and that was the hardest thing I had to watch. The nurse that did this was at least 6'4" and he had a hard time holding her hand still while she screamed!!! By 12:30 AM everything had come back clear. We were sent home with new formula to help her tummy out and to watch her.
Sunday was a good day. Her tummy was doing better and she was perking up. Around 5:00 we got a call from Children's to come back in, the blood culture had come back with a positive. By now we had become pros at this route. Some of the nurses even recognized us and came back in to check on us (that is sad).

After arriving back at Children's Sunday, they re-drew blood (yes, that involved putting an IV in) and discussed what protocol was for a positive blood culture. They also did a lumbar puncture to rule out meningitis. After having all those procedures done, we sat and waited to be admitted. Because they did not know what was causing the positive in the blood culture, they started Amelia on a broad spectrum antibiotic and admitted us to the hospital.

We spent the night in the hospital and she got several rounds of antibiotics. By noon Monday morning results from her latest blood test had come back and they looked good. Someone had goofed and contaminated her sample from Saturday night!!!! They released us and one EXTREMELY tired little girl and her family headed home. She is feeling better and recouping from her long weekend. We went to her pediatrician today to get checked out and things looked good.

When we got home Amelia had a special package in the mail for her upcoming trip.....her retro shades.
Today we tried on her beach gear to make sure it fits....After this past weekend we are all ready for a vacation!!!!

Our Induction to the New Parents Club

At 11:00 pm last night Jeremy, Amelia and myself set out to Children's Hospital Emergency Room. Miss Priss had been having stomach trouble all day and had reach the limit on poopy diapers for her age, so in we go so they could evaluate her for dehydration and such.
Here we are heading out the door. This is all Amelia remembers, she fell asleep in the car and slept through the entire thing. She never woke up, which was great, because Friday night at any ER brings in the crazy's! Even when they took her out of the carrier she slept.
We were released around 1:30 with an all clear. She just had a virus and to watch her for the next few days to make sure it didn't get worse.
However, her poor bottom is taking a beating. Her Dad made her a nice Bubble Bath, which she loved, it seemed to help, and he even bought her a tube of Boudreaux's Butt Paste...."because it works better than that other stuff"
Oh, and by the way...Miss Priss now weighs 10.1 lbs!

Pinkie

Amelia received the neatest blanket this past weekend. Our old neighbors from across the street gave it to her. I grew up with their daughter and she now has a little girl who is 18 months old. Lets just say that this is what every little girls needs. Mrs. Joy made this blanket. On one side it is super soft and the other is silky. Amelia loves to hang out and scoot around on the soft side. We affectionately call the blanket "pinkie" because a blanket this great needs a name!!!

Our New Ride

Amelia has been crusing around the neighborhood in her new ride. It is a good thing it came equipped with a MP3 adaptor and speakers since the girl loves her music!!!

Apparently all that exercise is exhausting....Girl, was out when we got back to house.

Twinkle Twinkle is for Losers

Someone was a tab bit fussy the other night. We already know she is a fan of the Black Eyed Peas and loves the song Boom Boom Pow. We can pull the song up on the computer and play it and Amelia chills right out. Her Daddy on the other hand wanted to try "his" music. Needless to say he was thrilled when she calmed down listening to a little Metallica.

Newborn Pictures

A while back I posted a sneak peak to Amelia's newborn pics we had taken. Well here they are...go to www.amandapair.com/hutchinson

The Forgotten One

Oh, what a rough life he lives, sleeping 23 hours a day on a nice comfy bed, getting all the attention he possibly can. Life couldn't be any better. Then it happened....this screaming little thing came home and it has not left. Meow Meow has been adjusting to life with a new baby slowly.

When we first got home from the hospital we did not see him for two days, then he slowly made his way out. He now hangs out at the end of the bed during the day and at night makes sure he gets plenty of snuggle time in. He does however show interest in the baby....slightly. It more like a curiosity. He will not get very close, and if Amelia moves, Meow jumps and runs. He comes in her room while we are playing, just doesn't like to get to close. He even gets up at night when she eats, but he chooses to sit outside her door an sleep.

However, today after a quick run to the grocery store I came home to find this.
Apparently "Frog Man" had gotten the toilet paper from the bathroom, drug it into the bedroom, and began to shred a roll.
When I called the Meow, he immediately came to the site of the incident. He has this look on his face as to say....."It was NOT me, look, frog man is still there! I wouldn't do that!"
Needless to say, maybe someone needs a little more attention.....

Growing....

Just a few pictures from the past few days!!!

Amelia and I hanging out learning sign language....we are working on the sign for bathroom...it tends to be the one we use the most here lately!

Amelia got some FABULOUS outfits from my college roommate...we decided to play dress up one day....Outfit 1

Which brings us to outfit 2.....this is as far as we made it !!!!

Today we are sporting our Red, White and Blue to support America

Amelia says "Happy Birthday America, Holla"

Amelia enjoyed hanging out on her tummy for a little while in her room.
Here is a close up shot of her....I think the eyes are going to be blue...

All that work on her tummy made her hungry. Note the new outfit....that would be the second one of the day. So much for our patriotic them....we tried! She gulped down her snacked and passed smooth out. Piglet is growing everyday. I think she is up to three chin's now!!!

What I Have Learned About Parenting So Far...

  • Sleep...doesn't exist anymore. And if it does it is in short increments.
  • Baby gear is complicated. All the gadgets come with confusing straps, crazy scary looking animals that attach and are there to "soothe" the baby and you pretty much need an engineering degree to assemble and work most of it.
  • Diapers. Holy Cow...to everyone who gave us diapers as a shower gift...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! I am amazed at how many we go through. Also, they have a weight category on the side, I am beginning to wonder if that is the baby's weight or the amount the diaper will hold!
  • Bumbling Idiots. That is what you turn into. I find myself singing, dancing and making up songs to make Amelia laugh, smile or just stop crying !!! This is either a parental instinct or it goes back to the lack of sleep.
  • Piles of Clothes. Again, amazing how many items of clothing something so little can go through in one day.
  • Interesting Smells. Whether its spit up or gas....HOLY COW...some of the odors that come out of such a little person are awful. They REALLY should be coming out of a much larger person.
  • Unconditional Love. No matter how many times she cries, pees on me, poops on me, spits up on me I still love her.
